Piano di Sorrento the town of seafarers
The most populous town on the Sorrento Peninsula, with a long tradition of shipowners and an archaeological museum in a villa by the sea.

A town of shipowners
For centuries Piano di Sorrento was a town of sailors and shipbuilders: in the nineteenth century, sailing ships left its yards for the whole Mediterranean and beyond the ocean. Many Neapolitan shipowning families have their roots here.
The Basilica of San Michele Arcangelo is the religious heart of the town.

Archaeology with a view
In Villa Fondi, overlooking the gulf, the Georges Vallet Archaeological Museum displays finds from the Sorrento Peninsula, from prehistory to Roman times. Its garden is one of the finest viewpoints in the area.
Down below, Marina di Cassano is the fishermen’s little harbour.
