Meta di Sorrento beaches and seafaring tradition
The first town on the Sorrento Peninsula coming from Naples: two wide beaches, a basilica linked to a legend and a long history of seafarers.

Our Lady of the laurel
According to legend, an image of the Madonna was found beneath a laurel tree: the Basilica of Santa Maria del Lauro was built on the spot, and it is still the symbol of Meta today.
Like Piano, Meta was for centuries a town of sailors, captains and shipowners.

The sea close at hand
Meta has two of the widest beaches on the peninsula: Alimuri, beneath the cliff, and the Marina di Meta. That is why families love it.
Footpaths lead from the town up to the hills and the inland villages of the peninsula.
