Furore the village that isn’t there
A village with no square, scattered over a mountain that drops sheer into the sea, and at the bottom a narrow fjord between the rocks: Furore is like no other village on the Amalfi Coast.

The fury of the sea
The name comes from the roar of the waves that crash into the fjord on stormy days. In the Middle Ages, mills and paper mills sprang up at the bottom of the gorge, harnessing the water of the stream: some of the buildings can still be seen.
Furore has no real centre: its houses are scattered along the slope, among vineyards and terraces. That is why it is called “the village that isn’t there”.

Cinema, wine and high dives
After the war Roberto Rossellini shot some scenes here with Anna Magnani, who stayed in the hamlet by the fjord. Today the village walls are decorated with works by contemporary artists.
On the steep slopes, “heroic” vineyards produce one of the most highly regarded wines of the Costa d’Amalfi.
